I haven’t done anything with the SPI flash. should I be flashing using the guide here?
oh - you might be right - i mixed it up with the above line, but i think this simply flashes to the uboot partition of the emmc … i have no idea which steps would be the best to do next - best would be that someone from milk-v joins those disccussions here to resolve all those issuesw hich seems to surprisingly not happen …
Any chance I can get some help or was buying this a waste of money?
Looks like some of the boards have hardware issues.
Please email us at meles@milkv.io and we will replace or refund you.
Email sent. Thank you!
@setq also offered me to send the board to milkv and get a refund from arace … before starting all the hassle with shipping it back i gave it another try and to my surprise the board which was still booting from sd card at least a few days ago no longer boots and i now also get the “PHY0 DDR_INIT_ERR” lots of other people have as well - so looks like its completely broken now too … so looks like there is no way around to shipping it back
@setq - do i really have to ship the board back? can’t it just be refunded? - i mean you seem to send out boards which seem to have quetionable qa and then the customers - besides wasting a lot of time with this broken hardware - also have the hassle to organize to ship it back which costs extra and creates even more useless effort … also i would be interested to hear, what exactly the problem is - is there some regulator programmed with the wrong voltage so that the spi or other chips die after a short time (i noticed that the board gets surprisingly warm) … mine btw. does not respond to neither the serial cct flashing nor to fastboot flashing anymore now …
i hope to not have to see more such bad quality hardware and rather bad support from milkv in the future
best wishes - hexdump
update: in the end i got the fastboot flashing working (although very unreliable) and it looks like something broke the ram or ram-controller and not the spi as even a u-boot loaded into ram does not manage to calibrate the memory anymore (so no spi flash involved in this scenario even) …
@setq - what was the problem with those boards in the end, i.e. which component was wrong/broke?
It should be a problem with the production process, resulting in non-welding.
which component had problems with non-welding? (background: i have one of those broken boards still and ask myself, if there is maybe something worth trying to bring it back to life)
a lot of thanks in advance and best wishes - hexdump
CPU or DDR. We found some broken boards, and re-soldering them will become working.
I’m sorry for the trouble. You can contact the store where you bought it and ask them to replace it for you, or refund it.
@setq - i was in contact with arace (where i bought the meles back then) and they were fine with refunding me for the board but they and milk-v asked me to ship the broken board back in exchange … i started to prepare shipping it back and gave up after trying to sort out the problems of shipping something like this back from here to china including the tax declaration etc. … if you would be fine now with refunding me for the broken meles or even better with sending me a working one to replace it i’m more than willing with either option as long as i can avoid all the hassles of shipping the broken one back - i think now it should be no problem anymore from your side as back then you wanted it back to analyze the problems which seem to be sorted out meanwhile …
a lot of thanks in advance and best wishes - hexdump
