Hi, sorry for the stupid questions. It’s been a long time since I built a PC.
What’s the minimum I can do to confidence check that my Jupiter board is working? If I plug in a 12V power supply and an HDMI cable, should I see anything? Is it picky about the monitors it will work with? Or does it need storage and an OS? Do I need to wire in a power switch too and press that?
Thanks. I tried a 12V 5A power supply and an old TV (720p) and didn’t see anything. I can also try a USB-C cable as power or data.
Also I’m not sure how to attach an M.2 drive. There’s a brass-coloured post at the end where it would rest on but I can’t see how to screw anything into it - I don’t think there’s a thread inside. Looking at the Explaining Computers video at 8:30 he has something different he can screw into, whereas at 5:30 looks like the post I’ve got - do I need to get that out (force?) and replace it with something? Thanks!
No, I haven’t got that far. I want to boot from an M.2 SSD but I’m stuck how to install it because there’s a brass post where I need to screw it down. I guess I need to take that out and replace it with something like these screws but I don’t know
if they’re the right ones - the right height, the right thread?
how to remove the brass post without damaging the board - can I unscrew it with pliers? Do I just push it out from the bottom?
But, even then I tried just powering up the board without an SSD or SD card and I saw nothing on my screen. So I wanted to check if that’s normal or not.
Yes I can buy an SD card and try with that instead I suppose, and/or I can see if titanflasher would recognise the board even without an SD card or SSD drive in place. But I’m worried about seeing nothing on the screen, and how to secure the M.2 drive, so I came here to ask.
Thank you, yes that was it. I really didn’t see it as yellow tape - it looked like clear resin blocking the whole thing.
Great, so M.2 drive is in place. Will have a go with titanflasher later then.
(FWIW the pack of mounting posts I linked to don’t fit at all, the thread in the other holes on the board are far too big. But the screws in the pack fitted the existing post fine when I got the sticker off.)
No, a brand new board with no storage or image won’t show anything on the monitor - there isn’t (AFAICS) any way to tell if the board is working or not at this stage.
It works fine with a 720p monitor.
No, it will work fine without a power switch attached to the front panel jumper pins.
I did see logs on the screen when doing the flashing over USB-C, but not just booting into reset mode.
