NVME SSD doesn't work. (Please help)

Hello!

I’m using a Jupiter v1.1 board and the Bianbu image provided by Milk-V on Github (2.0.2 minimal). The titanflasher tool does detect a volume, however the board doesn’t boot after flashing. It only boots off of the SD card.

The NVME SSD (Kingston NV2) doesn’t show up when I run lsblk. Does anyone else have this problem?

My SSD is PCIE 4, and the Jupiter supports PCIE 2. I thought these standards are backwards compatible, I can’t even buy a PCIE 2 NVME SSD if I wanted to.

I use a Kingston A2000 (PCIe gen 3), so the board definitely supports newer generations.

Could you tell me more about your power supply? My experience with other boards has shown me that most NVMe SSD problems originate from insufficient power.

I’m using an external 90W PSU, with a matching case from the same manufacturer. The case itself has a circuit that takes in the barrel jack connector and outputs standard ATX. I tried to connect the PSU both to the case and to the board itself.

I think the issue might be the difference in PCIE generation. 4 might be too far from 2.

I’m running with a 970 EVO Plus NVMe™ M.2 SSD with no problems, you might want to read some of the technical reviews of you drive as they seam to say it’s bad…

The drive is detected when it’s inserted into a normal computer. I say this because it shows up as a storage device in the BIOS. I didn’t check if it’s visible in GNU/Linux or Windows, but I will try it when I have time.

I don’t know if it’s because I am using an SD card instead of the NVME SSD, but the console output is reallyyyyy slow on the Jupiter. That’s why I was so determined to run it with an SSD.

I hope I didn’t get a broken board from Milk-V… I know some people have bad luck with the Wi-Fi.

Have you managed to get access the data on the drive from a PC yet?

Also have you tried flashing with a different USB cable yet?

Not yet, I didn’t have the time, I’m very tired after work. In the meantime I also decided to gift the NVMe to my sister, so I’ll see if it actually works when I set up Windows for her.

The cable suggestion is really good. I was using my keyboard’s USB-A to USB-C cable to flash. I will use a cable actually used for data transfer next time.

The NVMe was in fact functional. The issue I was facing was either firmware related or hardware related.
