SG2002 vs CV1812CP and what's the relevance between Milk-V/Sophgo/Cvitek?

Hey guys,

I’m playing around with a Milk-V Duo 256M and trying to get my head around the build system.

I’m seeing references to both SG2002 and cv1812cp when configuring the kernel. I’m assuming they refer to the same silicon, but I’m not sure why two names exist or which one I should prioritize mentally.

Also, what’s the deal with the companies? I know Milk-V makes the board, but the SDK seems to be a mix of “Sophgo” and “Cvitek”.

Just trying to untangle the terminology so I know what I’m looking at when debugging. Thanks for any help!

Essentially the same thing. I work with ‘cv’ since I’ve been working with these chips since before the ‘sg’ line. I understand the ‘sg’ names are the newer ones though.

I bet this is one of these tricks where companies circumvent regulations, bans and other legal restrictions or something. Sometimes it is related to one group buying another out, for whatever reason — completely innocent or not.

If anyone knows the reason behind this mixture of brand names, I’d be delighted to hear the story.

Cvitek is a 100% owned company by Sophgo, Milk-V is the chip distributor of Sophgo and design house of Sophgo.
